March 24-30 has been proclaimed as Social Work week in Saskatchewan. Social Work week has been designated to promote and celebrate the profession and to acknowledge that Social Workers provide many different services.
Social Workers are found working in various fields, not limited to but including: community based organizations, child and family services agencies, hospitals, mental health and addictions counselling agencies, schools, justice system, social assistance administration agencies, long term care and home care services, and in private practice.
The local branch of Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers is called Yellowhead East and the current members are: Paula Walker-Speiler, Bob Buhler, Twila Seeley, Barb Pelletier, Michelle Goulden, Ulyana Bolonna, Ashley Zelinski, Leah McNeil & Sophia Thomas.
The Yellowhead Branch organizes yearly workshops for community professionals. The most recent topics have been Truth and Reconciliation in Action, Gender & Sexual Diversity and Motivational Interviewing.
This year's Yellowhead Workshop will be on Trauma at SIGN on April 17.
