There are many ways of defining Blended Learning. In the Good Spirit School Division, the Distributed Learning Program consists of online course delivery and blended learning. Blended learning combines online digital media with traditional classroom methods. It requires the physical presence of both teacher and student, with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace.
Furthermore, GSSD believes in a Rapid Blend model where teachers can begin by posting course material online and then moving on to blended and personalized instruction. This model focuses on the achieving the three "E's":
- Engagement - Increasing student engagement by providing flexibility, personalized paths and varied forms of assessment
- Extending - Allowing students to access course materials and submit assignments outisde of the face to face classroom
- Efficiency - making the student and teachers more productive by having content and supports available digitally.
