Orange Shirt Day 2018 - Every Child Matters

September 24, 2018

Orange shirt day 2018.jpgGood Spirit School Division will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Sept. 27th. Orange Shirt day is a day to remember the experiences of former students of Indian Residential Schools and is a commitment to ongoing reconciliation in Canada.

Orange Shirt Day falls on a non school day this year, so we are encouraging everyone to wear orange on September 27th.

Orange Shirt Day began in Williams Lake, B.C. in 2013 at a commemoration event at a local residential school, a story was told about a young student named Phyllis who had her brand-new orange shirt taken away on her first day at the school. The orange shirt is a symbol of the many losses experienced by thousands of students and families due to residential schools.

The Orange Shirt Day campaign provides all Canadians with an opportunity to participate in a collective act of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
