Actions to Improve Early Literacy

As part of the Provincial Education Plan, the Ministry of Education is introducing a common approach to reading instruction across the province.

This school year, all Kindergarten to Grade 3 students will participate in a reading screener during regular class time. The screener is a brief, research-based assessment that helps teachers identify students who may need additional support to strengthen their reading skills.

This initiative focuses on ensuring every child becomes a confident, capable reader by Grade 3, which is a key milestone for lifelong learning success.
