Welcome to the third month of school! We have had a successful start to the year. The Grade 5 band students participated in their beginner clinic in September. The Grade 6-8 Band students were able to sign up for private lessons as well that weekend. The Grade 7 and 8 Full Bands and the Jazz Bands have started rehearsing and we're looking forward to the first performance for everyone in December.
The Grade 5 and 6 band students wear a yellow tshirt as part of their uniform when we perform at concerts. The Grade 6 students should have a tshirt from last year. The Grade 5 students will receive their shirts before the concert. If a Grade 5 Band student does not need a tshirt because they have one from an older sibling, please email or phone your band instructor if you haven't already done so. We will see that you get reimbursed for that portion of your band fee.
The rest of the uniform for Grade 5 and 6 Band students is black (or dark) pants, black socks and black (or dark) shoes.
Uniforms for Grade 7 and 8 band students are the polo shirts students were sized for earlier, black (or dark) pants, black socks and black (or dark) shoes. If you have not yet paid for you student's polo shirt, the shirts are $28. If you have any questions or concerns about the shirts please contact Mrs. Linsley or Mr. Yemen.
Our first chance to wear our uniforms will be at our Winter Concert. It will take place on Monday, December 11 at 7:00 P.M. in the Anne Portnuff Theatre at YRHS. The concert will feature the Grade 5, 6, 7, and 8 Concert Bands and the Tuesday and Thursday Morning Jazz Bands. Tuesday Morning Jazz students will wear their Grade 6 uniform. Thursday Morning Jazz students will exchange their tunic for their bunnyhug after their concert band plays.
Admission to the concert is free, however, you have the option of bringing a non-perishable food item to be donated to Shelwin House.
We hope that everyone will be able to stay for the entire concert. There will be a slide show during the concert that shows the activities our band students have been involved in over the past year.
Warm up times for the concert are as follows:
Grade 5 – 6:20 P.M. Grade 6 – 6:30 P.M.
Grade 7 – 6:45 P.M. Grade 8 – 7:00 P.M.
Look for signs in the front entrance that tell you which room in the "A" wing your grade will meet. If you can assist in the warm-up rooms or by moving students from the warm-up room to the stage and back, please contact Mrs. Linsley or Mr. Yemen.
***Please note that there will be no jazz band rehearsals after the concert until we return after the Christmas break. ***
Tuesday Morning Jazz will resume on January 9
Thursday Morning Jazz will resume on January 11.
