ALL STAFF (teachers, administration, support staff, etc.) AND STUDENTS of GSSD are invited to choose ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION as their means of getting to work/school. Walking, running or riding to work has the following benefits: • Moderate physical activity reduces the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke. • Physical activity improves vigour, self-esteem and a sense of well-being. Furthermore: • Health Canada reports that only 27% of Canadians achieve health benefits from enough daily physical activity. • According to Transport Canada, the number of cars per 1000 Canadians has doubled since 1960; distances driven and frequency of trips have steadily increased. • Bicycling and walking can alleviate traffic congestion and air pollution. --- Participants in GSSD will have a chance to win a new mountain bike. To be eligible, your school must draw a student name and staff member name from your list of participants. Please submit those names to Donna Court at GSSD (786-5500 or Donna.Court@gssd.ca) by noon on June 1st. GSSD will be giving away 2 student bikes and 1 staff bike as sponsored by CSCH (Comprehensive School Community Health).
